"From Ground Zero" to represent Palestine at the Oscars

The Palestinian Ministry of Culture has nominated "From Ground Zero" to represent Palestine at the Oscars next March in Los Angeles competing in the Best International Feature Film category.

Metafora Production was one of the first companies to support this project since its inception. The movies have been supervised and mentored by Palestinian director Rashid Masharawi.

"From Ground Zero" presents 22 diverse stories by filmmakers from Gaza, filmed under extremely difficult and complex conditions amidst bombings and great risks to the filmmakers' lives. Through these films, the filmmakers managed to tell their own stories or others' narratives of the brutal aggression by Israeli occupation forces, recounting loss of their homes, families, and displacements.

Palestinian Minister of Culture, Mr. Emad Hamdan, stated, "This nomination affirms the importance and role of Palestinian cinema even in the darkest circumstances. The filmmakers have conveyed their stories to the world under the harshest inhumane conditions, overcoming the challenges, and gaining recognition at the most important international and Arab forums."
